Step 1: Make Sure The Kitten Is Warm

If a kitten feels cold, do not feed them yet. Cold kittens cannot digest food safely, and feeding too early can be dangerous.

  • Feel ears, paws, and mouth
  • If cold → Warm slowly using towel or body heat
  • Use heating pad on LOW wrapped in towel
  • Warm for 30–60 minutes before feeding

Step 2: Check Hydration

Kittens can become dehydrated quickly, especially if separated from their mother.

  • Gently pinch skin between shoulder blades
  • If skin snaps back → Hydrated
  • If skin stays tented → Dehydrated → Call TLGH

Step 3: Check Gum Color

Healthy kittens should have bubblegum pink gums.

  • Pink → Normal
  • Pale or white → Possible anemia or shock → Emergency

Step 4: Estimate Kitten Age

  • Eyes closed → Under 1 week
  • Eyes open, wobbly → 2–3 weeks
  • Walking, playful → 4+ weeks
